Lifestyles of the “Blank” and “Blank”.

Hey there friends! It’s been a while since I’ve written to you. It’s about time I puke letters all over your screen again.

There have been some very interesting developments in the land of Altechnotronica (The musical land we kick it in). The environment has changed, and we have evolved as artists. Taking almost a year and over 1,000 hours, our debut album has been completed and sent to distributers. It’s been a very long road. A road paved with bear traps and home-made slip-n-slides.

We always knew we were going to release the album independently. Even with a few label talks, we pretty much knew that we set ourselves up backwards. Traditionally, you write an album (or a set) and start performing it, record a demo, and pitch the demo to labels for studio time. With the music industry in it’s current state, we decided that we were way too cool for that. With a plan somewhat resembling that of everyone’s new BFF: Owl City, we set out to Write/Record/Mix/Master a full record ourselves with the help of a trusty Macbook Pro, and an assortment of instruments (both digital and analog). Needless to say, many headaches ensued.

It was just me and Joshua in a third room we liked to call “The Studio”. A room where I almost suffocated trying to record vocals in the closet while being straddled by a mattress. Where countless cans of energy drinks were consumed. A room where we’d go to avoid that whole “sleep” craze everyone was talking about. While it may sound horrible now, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Perhaps we’ll get paid for it next time? If not in dolla dollar bills y’all, then your kind words of encouragement should suffice.

And then there was paperwork. On top of building your own website (with your own paws), scheduling your own shows, photo-shoots, designing your own brand and merchandise; you’re telling me that I need to fill out countless amounts of paperwork to validate it all? Sweet, where do I sign? Oh, here, and here, and here, and here. Do I see the value of a label, of management, of PR? Absolutely. A band is a business and as an artist, the more you realize that, the more disconnected you become from your craft. We were lucky in our ignorance. We set out for a 10 song album and ended up with 15 songs. With miles of inspiration, it was pretty easy to get carried away. I think it would be much harder doing a second album knowing now what we didn’t a year ago.

That being said, I am uncontrollably excited to release this album to the world. Our fuel thus far has been the support of all of you (our friends, family, & fans) and that’s a renewable resource (yes I did).

If you haven’t already checked it out, we released a new song on our myspace.

Coming up: New music, new videos, new pictures, that NEW NEW shit! I wish I could give you guys a solid release date for the album, but all I can say for now is, “VERY SOON!”
